I’m fascinated by history, and there’s an enormous chunk of time we know little about. Every ancient culture has a creation story. Nearly all have a flood story. Many of the similarities in these stories are striking. We have little or no record of significant events in this world. The Old Testament gives us tantalizing clues. Apocryphal works, such as The Book of Enoch, provide even more clues. There is archeological evidence worldwide that points to a rich civilization that existed in our distant past, but what actually happened? History books continue to be rewritten as discoveries tell us the ancients weren’t all simple hunter-gatherers. Gobekli Tepi, in modern Turkey, is an example of a complex civilization that existed tens of thousands of years ago, for which we have no explanation. These glimpses into the past intrigue and inspire me. The Chronicles of the Watchers series explores these mysteries of time while looking at religious belief systems through a slightly different lens.
